UK Firm Cuts Carbon Emissions With New Classic Car Biofuel

A UK company has launched a new biofuel that can power classic cars, which claims to reduce emissions by at least 65 per cent.

Coryton has created the biofuel from a blend of unleaded petrol and bio-organic compounds from agricultural waste, calling the product Sustain Classic.

Business development director of Coryton David Richardson said the limited availability of fossil-free fuel components meant it had to be honest and realistic about its carbon-cutting goals.

“While we could use mass-balancing techniques to certify this fuel as 100 per cent, we believe that it’s important to be open about technology readiness and traceability,” he told Autocar

Mr Richardson added that making products like this available to consumers will show them “how easy and effective the switch could be”.

The three products Coryton has produced include Super 80, with at least 80 per cent renewable content and Super 33, with one third renewable content. Both of these contain 98-octane unleaded petrol.

It also created Racing 50, made from a blend of 102-octane fuel and 50 per cent renewable content.

However, the carbon-friendly fuels come with a hefty price tag. A litre of Racing 50, for instance, costs £5.24, compared with a litre of unleaded petrol at £1.43.
